BRIEFING TO THE MEDIA ON CABINET DECISIONS TAKEN DURING THE CABINET MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 24th SEPTEMBER, 2018 AT STATE HOUSE ENTEBBE

Cabinet sat on Monday September 24th, 2018 at State House Entebbe, and;

  1. Approved the use of the following stop-gap measures in the management of Foot and Mouth Disease:

(i)                  Enforce quarantines in affected Sub-counties and surrounding areas within the radius of 20 kilometers;

(ii)                Vaccination of all animals in the affected Sub-Counties and the surrounding areas.

(iii)               Sensitization of farmers on how to contain the Foot and Mouth disease.

(iv)               Enforce punitive action against those individuals who violate the guidelines issued by the Commissioner, Animal Health;

(v)                 Amend the Animal Disease Control Act, 1954. 

  1. Noted that Uganda will hold Celebrations to mark the 56thIndependence Day Anniversary on Tuesday 9th October, 2018 at Kasasa Sub-county, Kyotera District under the theme “Celebrating the achievements of 56 years of Independence”.
  1. Noted that that Uganda Revenue Authority will hold the Tax Payers’ Appreciation Week from 24th – 28th September, 2018 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds. The objectives of the Tax Payers’ Appreciation Week are:

(i)                  To increase the awareness and visibility of Government’s Programmes, achievements and utilization of tax revenue in service delivery;

(ii)                To improve Government’s transparency and accountability to the citizens;

(iii)               To strengthen collaboration and better understanding by different MDAs of their roles towards revenue mobilization under the Government approach;

(iv)               To cultivate and promote the taxpaying culture among Ugandans;

(v)                 To recognize and reward new and compliant taxpayers.
