Today, selected ICT innovators from across the country have begun pitching their innovation to the expert selection committee of the National ICT Initiatives Support program under phase 2.

Ministry of ICT and National Guidance is currently implementing the National ICT Initiatives Support Program whose main objective is to develop the ICT Innovation ecosystem.

Today the 16th of April 2019, Innovators whose innovation falls in Agriculture and Education sector are expected to showcase their innovations while those whose innovations are in Health and Public Sector are expected to showcase their innovation tomorrow. Those whose innovations fall under other categories are expected to present on Thursday.

ICT Innovation Support Project is a five year program by the government of Uganda which aims at supporting and promoting local innovation. The program interventions include; 1) Supporting local innovation to transform viable ideas into mature products, 2) Establishment of ICT Parks which will provide work spaces for start-ups and where entrepreneurs, government, academia and private companies can collaborate and cooperate for development, 3) Commercializing Ugandan ICT products and positioning Uganda as an ICT Investment hub and 4) Promoting local electronics manufacturing and assembly.

The expected project outcomes include; increased employment opportunities, increased uptake of locally developed ICT Products within the country and internationally, Increased local content development, increased indigenous product development and support for government applications.
