On 16th December 2024, the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance officially received 60,247 tablets from the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS). These tablets, previously used during the National Population and Housing Census, have been repurposed to support various government programs aimed at improving service delivery.
The handover ceremony marked a significant step in resource optimization within the government. Following the transfer, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Aminah Zawedde, distributed the tablets to several key beneficiaries. Among the recipients were the Electoral Commission, Local Governments, and Operation Wealth Creation (OWC).
The tablets are expected to play a vital role in facilitating critical government activities. These include supporting the electoral process, implementing the Parish Development Model (PDM), enhancing data management systems for local governments, and monitoring government wealth creation programs. The devices will also bolster coordination and efficiency in various other government operations.
Dr. Zawedde emphasized that this initiative underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve service delivery across the country. “The repurposing of these tablets ensures that valuable resources continue to serve Ugandans by supporting programs that directly impact their lives,” she stated.
The move aligns with the government’s broader agenda of digital transformation and improving operational efficiency within public institutions. By reallocating these devices, the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance is addressing critical needs while fostering greater coordination between central and local government entities.
This handover also reflects a growing recognition of the importance of technology in driving national development and ensuring the effective implementation of key government initiatives.
