In January 2026, the National ICT Innovation Hub partnered with Lwera Electronics to strengthen youth STEM mentorship through practical, hands-on learning. The collaboration is designed to expose young learners to real-world technology development by providing access to essential electronics hardware, as well as mentorship from innovators within the Hub.
Through this partnership, students gain valuable hands-on experience in robotics and electronics, equipping them with early digital skills and practical knowledge. The initiative not only enhances learning but also inspires the next generation of innovators who will play a key role in advancing Uganda’s digital transformation agenda.
Following the partnership, the Hub organized a four-day holiday STEM program held from 27th to 30th January, introducing students to the fundamentals of robotics and electronics through hands-on sessions. The program created an opportunity for young learners to explore how everyday technologies work by designing and assembling simple electronic systems under the guidance of innovators based at the Hub.
The impact of the program was particularly visible during the training, where sixteen students participated in practical robotics and electronics activities. With mentorship from resident innovators at Deep Shift AI, GiiT, and Code Impact, and using equipment provided through the partnership, the students worked in teams to design and build functional smart traffic lights and alarm systems.
Beyond learning how components such as LEDs, sensors, and transistors work, the participants also developed important skills in teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking. The program concluded with a demo day where the students presented and explained their projects to their parents, marking an exciting milestone in their learning journey.
Looking ahead, the National ICT Innovation Hub plans to continue expanding these holiday STEM programs while strengthening partnerships that support practical learning. By providing young learners with access to tools, mentorship, and innovation spaces, the Hub is helping to build a pipeline of young creators who will contribute to Uganda’s growing digital economy.
