Uganda Shines at Dubai Expo 2020: Showcasing Opportunities and Innovation

Dubai, UAE – Uganda made a significant impact at the Dubai Expo 2020, held under the theme "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future." The country's participation was marked by a series of strategic initiatives and investment announcements aimed at boosting Uganda's economic growth and development.

Uganda's pavilion, located in the Opportunity Thematic District, was a vibrant showcase of the country's rich natural resources, cultural heritage, and investment potential. The pavilion featured interactive exhibits, including an augmented reality experience of Uganda's mountain gorillas in Bwindi, which allowed visitors to immerse themselves in Uganda's unique wildlife2.
One of the highlights of Uganda's participation was the announcement of major investment deals worth approximately USD 650 million. These investments spanned various sectors, including renewable energy, transportation, mineral processing, and pharmaceuticals.

The announcement was made during a special ceremony on Uganda's National Day at the Expo, underscoring the country's commitment to attracting foreign investment and fostering economic partnerships.

5 Innovations were selected to represent Uganda at the Dubai Expo 2020. These were unveiled during the launch of a brand and media campaign dubbed ‘Discover Africa’s Innovation Powerhouse on 15th March. These included Emvigo, Xente, PRISMS, Oncoplanta, and Badaye Technologies.



United Arab Emirates's Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem Al Hashimy, praised Uganda's efforts and highlighted the importance of international cooperation in achieving sustainable development goals. The Expo provided a platform for Uganda to promote its tourism, trade, and investment opportunities, with a focus on sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture, and healthcare.

As the Expo concluded, Uganda's participation was widely regarded as a success, with the country making valuable connections and securing commitments that will contribute to its post-pandemic recovery and long-term growth.
