Posta Uganda Launches National E-Commerce Platform - POSTCOM
Posta Uganda, one of the agencies under the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, has officially launched POSTCOM, a government-owned national e-commerce platform designed to connect Ugandan businesses to both local and global markets. The launch, held at the Uganda Media Centre, marks a clear shift in the postal service's role from traditional mail delivery to a digitally enabled logistics and trade ecosystem.
POSTCOM integrates Posta Uganda’s nationwide physical network with a digital marketplace, creating a structured system for buying, selling, and delivering goods across the country and beyond. With over 100 branches nationwide and established last-mile delivery routes, the platform positions the postal service as a central player in Uganda’s growing digital economy.
Speaking at the launch, State Minister for National Guidance, Hon. Godfrey Baluku Kabbyanga, described the platform as a practical step in advancing Uganda’s digital transformation agenda. He noted that POSTCOM creates a direct pathway for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises to access wider markets.
“POSTCOM will provide a national e-commerce platform that empowers citizens to buy and sell products online, while enabling MSMEs to reach broader markets both locally and globally,” he said.
Managing Director Arinaitwe James framed the platform as a shift in how Posta Uganda delivers value. “We are not just delivering parcels; we are delivering opportunities. With POSTCOM, we are combining technology and logistics to enable Ugandans to buy and sell online while we handle delivery efficiently and affordably across the country,” he said.
He added that the platform allows Ugandan businesses to access international markets, noting that sellers can now reach customers in up to 192 countries through a system built on trusted postal infrastructure.
Board Chairperson Sulaiman Kirunda Balyejjusa emphasised the role of Posta Uganda’s nationwide presence in improving access to services.
“Posta Uganda stands on a strong foundation of both physical infrastructure and digital capability, enabling us to serve communities across the entire country effectively. With post offices in every district, citizens can access services without unnecessary travel,” he said.
POSTCOM is designed as an inclusive platform that offers Ugandans a simple, accessible way to participate in digital trade. It supports the government’s broader push for digital inclusion, export growth, and the promotion of locally made products under initiatives such as Buy Uganda, Build Uganda.
The platform also aligns with Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap, which seeks to expand digital access, improve service delivery, and strengthen economic competitiveness. By turning post offices into e-commerce access points, POSTCOM effectively transforms the postal network into a national marketplace.
The launch concluded with the signing of a commemorative board and a symbolic exchange of gifts among partners, reflecting the collaborative effort behind the initiative.
With POSTCOM now live, Posta Uganda is positioning itself at the intersection of logistics and digital trade, offering a single system where Ugandans can sell online, reach new markets, and rely on a trusted nationwide delivery network.
