The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, in collaboration with the ICT Association of Uganda (ICTAU), will host the 2nd National ICT Summit 2025 from 17th to 18th July at the National ICT Innovation Hub in Nakawa.
This year’s Summit, held under the theme “Harnessing Digital Innovation for Sustainable Economic Growth,” aims to accelerate the implementation of Uganda’s Digital Transformation Roadmap (2024–2028). The roadmap outlines Uganda’s ambition to become a digitally driven society that promotes inclusive development, economic opportunity, and efficient public service delivery.
More than 500 participants are expected to attend, including ministers, government officials, regulators, development partners, corporate executives, academics, innovators, and ICT professionals. The Summit will provide a platform to discuss actionable strategies, showcase scalable innovations, and form cross-sector partnerships that can unlock Uganda’s digital economy.
The event will be officially opened by Dr Aminah Zawedde, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance. She will be joined by leaders from the Bank of Uganda, Uganda Communications Commission, NITA-U, the National Planning Authority, and top executives from the finance, health, agriculture, education, and technology sectors.
The two-day programme will include plenary sessions, ministerial keynotes, policy panels, roundtable discussions, innovation exhibitions, solution clinics, live product demonstrations, and networking events. Thematic sessions will address critical areas such as smart agriculture, digital health, e-learning, and opportunities in the digital economy and BPO sector. Participants will explore how technologies like artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and digital platforms can drive efficiency and create jobs, especially for Uganda’s youth.
According to Elizabeth Ntege, Chairperson of ICTAU, while speaking at the Summit launch on 5th June 2025, the Summit is a pivotal platform for action. “This Summit is where we move from plans to implementation. It bridges public and private sector efforts to unlock digital opportunities for citizens, MSMEs, and innovators,” she said.
Hon. Godfrey Kabbyanga Baluku, Minister of State for ICT and National Guidance, delivering the keynote address at the launch of the summit, calling it “a platform of action, where words meet strategy, and ideas turn into national impact.” He emphasized that digital transformation is a “whole-of-nation priority” that demands collaboration across government, private sector, and civil society.
He highlighted key focus areas of the Summit—digital agriculture, mHealth solutions, youth skilling, and scaling Uganda’s BPO sector—as critical to unlocking economic resilience and job creation. The two-day event will advance implementation of the Digital Transformation Roadmap (2024–2028) through policy dialogues, demos, and exhibitions from over 60 participating organizations.
Hon. Kabbyanga called for enabling regulation, stronger talent pipelines, and inclusive growth beyond urban centers. He reaffirmed the sector’s role in national development, noting its 7–8% GDP contribution and greater potential through deeper public-private collaboration. “The digital future will not wait for us,” he concluded. “We must lead it together.”
