The global digital economy continues to accelerate, transforming how people work, earn, and engage in production. To understand emerging work dynamics and strengthen decent work in Uganda’s BPO sector, officials from the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance joined a global delegation of 23 participants from 14 countries in a “Decent Work in the Platform Economy” training, held from 27th to 31st October 2025 at the International Labour Organization (ILO) International Training Centre in Turin, Italy. The training explored opportunities in digital work, regulatory challenges, and progressive global approaches for ensuring fair working conditions across digital platforms.
This programme was organised and hosted by the International Labour Organization (ILO), and it aimed at equipping policymakers and practitioners with skills to understand the emerging dynamics of the digital labour market and how governments can promote fair, inclusive, and sustainable working conditions for platform workers.
The engagement comes at a strategic time as Uganda advances execution of the National BPO Policy, particularly its incentives framework geared towards attracting investment and strengthening the competitiveness of the BPO ecosystem in Uganda.
MoICT&NG’s participation demonstrates a strong commitment to shaping a fair and inclusive BPO ecosystem. The Ministry will continue to engage ecosystem partners and drive national frameworks that reflect global best practices as Uganda positions itself as the leading BPO destination in Africa.
