The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, in collaboration with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), hosted an Iftar dinner at the ICT Innovation Hub in Nakawa. The event brought together Muslims from various sectors to celebrate unity and spiritual reflection during the holy month of Ramadan.
Hon. Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, expressed gratitude to all attendees and acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry and UCC in organizing the gathering. "I want to thank all the attendees and express my deep appreciation for the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, together with UCC for their efforts in organizing this meaningful event," he said. He also reflected on the significance of fasting across faiths, noting, “Fasting holds great significance in many faiths, including Christianity and Islam. I deeply admire the spirituality Muslims embody, particularly in how they dress and practice their faith.” He wished the guests a fruitful fasting season and reminded them of the importance of reflection during this sacred period.
The event emphasized the values of Ramadan, including self-reflection, spiritual growth, and unity. Ramadan, which lasts for 30 days, offers Muslims an opportunity to strengthen their connection with God and nurture family bonds. It also serves as a reminder of the importance of unity within both the Muslim community and society at large.
Dr. Aminah Zawedde, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, shared the significance of the occasion. “Ramadan is a time for reflection, devotion, and renewal of our faith,” she said. “Hosting this Iftar dinner reflects our shared values of peace, unity, and mutual respect. It’s a time for us to come together and embrace the spirit of generosity that Ramadan embodies.”
Dr. Zawedde encouraged guests to use digital platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and other social media channels to create spiritually enriching content aligned with the values of Ramadan, emphasizing that such content not only promotes awareness of the month’s spiritual significance but also offers opportunities for income generation by attracting larger audiences.
Also in attendance, Hon. Nyombi Thembo, the Uganda Communications Commission Executive Director, thanked all those who attended and emphasized the significance of such events. “We need to reflect on the importance of moments like these, celebrating our shared humanity during Ramadan. Such events remind us of our commitment to unity and charitable actions during this sacred month,” he said.
The Iftar dinner was a testament to the values of unity, spirituality, and collaboration. It not only celebrated Ramadan but also reinforced the commitment to promoting peace, respect, and service to all citizens, regardless of faith. The event served as a reminder of the importance of solidarity, mutual respect, and the values that transcend religious boundaries.
