Communication

The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, in partnership with MultiChoice Africa Holdings through MultiChoice Uganda, concluded a successful strategic communications and digital skills training programme for over 200 Government Communications Officers. The graduation ceremony was held on Friday, 11th July 2025, at the National ICT Innovation Hub in Nakawa and was officiated by Dr. Aminah Zawedde, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance. The week-long programme, conducted in two cohorts from 7th–8th and 9th–10th July 2025, is part of a broader Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2024 to promote digital literacy, responsible communication, and capacity building within the public sector. Participants were trained in crisis management, localization of government communication, visual media, and storytelling, through sessions that combined expert instruction with practical case studies and group exercises. Dr. Zawedde emphasized the importance of strengthening public communication, noting that “through this training, we have laid a strong foundation for enhanced citizen engagement and national development,” and she expressed pride in “tapping into MultiChoice Uganda’s extensive expertise in broadcasting and digital content development.” Hassan Saleh, Managing Director of MultiChoice Uganda, highlighted the company’s commitment to the initiative, explaining that “at MultiChoice Uganda, we believe that great storytelling is essential to progress,” and expressed satisfaction that they are “executing the objectives of our partnership with the Ministry and supporting government efforts to build a stronger connection with the public.” Representing the participants, Hellen Kawesa, Assistant Director of Communications and Public Relations at the Parliament of Uganda, described the training as invaluable, sharing that they “gained critical skills in crisis communication, localized messaging, and storytelling,” and even learned “how to effectively use mobile devices for impactful visual communication.” Speaking to the media, Rinaldi Jamugisa, PR and Communications Manager at MultiChoice Uganda, praised the Ministry’s leadership and collaboration, stating that they are “grateful for this partnership that continues to advance storytelling, build skills, and strengthen national institutions through effective communication.” The initiative marks another step forward in building a more skilled, responsive, and digitally capable public communications workforce in Uganda.
