BRIEFING TO THE MEDIA ON CABINET DECISIONS TAKEN DURING THE CABINET MEETING HELD ON MONDAY 18TH JUNE, 2018 AT STATE HOUSE ENTEBBE

1. Approved the proposed revised rates of duty facilitating allowances for Public Officers. The revised duty facilitating allowances include; Night Allowance within and outside Uganda, Safari Day Allowance, Lunch Allowance, Transport allowance and Sitting Allowance among others. This revision is intended:
(i) To enable Public Officers cope with the economic changes that have occurred since 2008 when the rates were last revised, specifically the cost of goods and services including meals accommodation, transport services and general cost of living that have gone up;
(ii) To provide adequate duty facilitating allowances to enable Public Officers acquire the basic services for which the allowances seek to achieve and this will improve the image of Government which Public Officers carry in public trust; and
(iii) To support the team of lower cadre staff including stenographers, drivers, bodyguards and Office Attendants among others with low salaries, to perform their duties with morale.
2. Noted that Uganda will hold a Fathers’ Day Celebration Walk and the 4th Annual Abstinence Celebration and Pride March (ACPM) on Saturday 23rd June, 2018 at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds under the theme “Fathers, we need your support to abstain, have values and character”. The objectives of the celebration are:
(i) To create awareness on the state of fatherhood in the Country;
(ii) To sensitize fathers on their vital roles as fathers and leaders of the families/households and to build their capacity in the area of fatherhood and family leadership;
(iii) To mobilize mothers, children and other family members to support and encourage fathers to play their vital role as fathers and leaders;
(iv) To call upon fathers to support the youth in the development of values and character;
(v) To popularize abstinence, faithfulness, ethics, integrity, hard work, positive attitude towards life and positive character development as national values among the youth; and
(vi) To challenge the youth to become a new generation of youth who will live by our National Motto “For God and My Country”
3. Noted that Uganda will commemorate the 7th Africa Public Service Day on Friday 22nd June, 2018 under the theme “Combating Corruption in Public Service Institutions through Stakeholder Participation and Promotion of Ethical Leadership to realize the objectives of Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.
4. Noted the efforts by Government to respond to the problem of Street Children in Uganda.
