October 2018: Week 1

Cabinet sat on Monday October 1st, 2018 at State House Entebbe, and,

  1.  Approved the proposal to borrow up to SDR 174.6million (US$251Million Equivalent) from the International Development Association of the World Bank Group for financing the Integrated Water Management and Development Project. The objectives of the Project are:

(i)                   To provide safe water and sanitation services in the project areas of; Gulu Municipality, Adjumani Town Council, Pakele, Ciforo and Dzaipi (as well as the parishes of Agojo and Mungula), Busia Town Council, Namungalwe-Kaliro, Kyegegwa-Mpara-Ruyonza, Namasale, Mbale Municipality, Butaleja-Busolwe and Budaka-Kadama-Tirinyi-Kibuku;

(ii)                To support the provision of water and sanitation services to refugees and refugee hosting communities in the districts of Adjumani, Moyo, Arua, Lamwo, Yumbe, Koboko, Isingiro and Hoima; and

(iii)               To strengthen the National Water Resource Monitoring and Information System.

  1. Noted the update on the progress of the construction of the new bridge across River Nile at Jinja and that the bridge will be commissioned on 17th October, 2018.
  1. Noted that Uganda will commemorate the World Teachers’ Day on Friday 5thOctober, 2018 at St. Leo’s College Kyegobe Playground, Kabarole district under the theme “the Right to Education means the right to qualified teachers”.
