July 2018: Week 1

Cabinet Media briefing on 3 July 2018 held at Uganda Media Center

Cabinet sat on the 2nd July 2018 at State House Entebbe and;

1. Noted that Uganda will join the rest of the world to commemorate the World Population Day on Wednesday, 11th July 2018 at Bobi Community Polytechnic Playground, Omoro District under the theme, “Leaving nobody Behind: Improving Service Delivery and Accountability”

Cabinet also noted that Uganda had witnessed commendable progress in a number of areas as indicated in the last Census 2014 and these include;
i) Increase in Life expectancy from 43 years to 63 years in 2016
ii) Decline in infant mortality rate from high 122 deaths per 1,000 live births in 1990 to a low 43 deaths per 1,000 live births in 2016. This achievement is a direct result of strong political leadership on education and child immunization against the killer diseases that ae preventable, as well as paying attention to safer water, sanitation and nutrition.
iii) Improvement in fertility levels in the country. Total fertility rate in Uganda has declined from 7.4 children per woman in 1991 to 5.4 children in 2016

2. Noted that the Women council elections would be held on Tuesday, 3rd July 2018 and urged the Political leadership to mobilize the electorate to fully participate in the exercise.
